If Sierra is working I would tell you that Mojave could be a problem. I am having problems since installing it. Once you install Mojave there is no going back. I tried installing in safe mode and got the same result.

Since I want all applicable updates available installed and do not want to make assumptions about what may or may not need to be manually installed, I have a case and will call Apple for guidance instead of assuming anything and making a mess of my system. I saved the installer to my desktop. Save it to wherever you want, just remember where you saved it. Now, select your volume by clicking the dropdown menu under the picture of a hard drive.
